Antrim Town, Co Antrim
Antrim town,22km - 16 miles NW from Belfast city is a pretty small town compared to the population in the surrounding area. Redevelopment took place in the 60s and early 70s when a lot of government housing was built. These housing areas extend a few miles east of the town. Antrim lies close to the shores of Lough Neagh ( the largest freshwater lake in the UK And Ireland ). The town has an inclosed shopping centre (Castle Center) and the usual shops, bars etc out on the streets. Unfortunately at the moment there is no hotel in operation in the town, the nearest being Dunadry Inn or the Airport Hotel both around 4-5 miles out of town.
The
smallish Six Mile Water river flows past the east side of the town and
into Lough Neagh. Between the town and the Lough Neagh shore there is a castle
ruins and grounds with the Antrim Forum Leisure center on the other side
of the river. Practically on the shore there is an large golf course,
a small caravan /camping site, Cafe and a small jetty and slipway.
The so called,Belfast international Airport which is not in Belfast city but
10-12 miles west of the city, is only 5 miles from Antrim town.
